Feel free to list midwives in the South Island that you have
used, and recommend them here!

I guess I have to recommend myself
Kathy Farquhar - Nelson Independent Midwife. You can contact me
on 027 5812 620 or kathylh@xtra.co.nz
Midwifery is my absolute passion and I'd love to support you
through a safe pregnancy, labour/birth and postnatal experience.

Hi - it's such a personal thing and I just clicked with my
midwife - she was the 1st one we met and we just knew
immediately.
Sue Nash is the midwife she works from Queen Mary in Dunedin and
I found her down to earth and straight up. Well it went so well
she has delivered all 3 of our boys! Our first was a hospital
birth straightforward but long and the other two have been speedy
but lovely homebirths. I always felt listened to, respected and
supported. She was fantastic with my other children and family. I
was quite sad to say goodbye when our last baby moved onto
Plunket!

I simply have to recomment MICHELLE ARCHER from Dunedin. She was my
back up midwife. I had never met her when I went into labour at 28
weeks. She called me in cause I was worried (some would have said
wait). Turned out I was 3 cm dialated and the twins were on their
way.
She was fab working with the hospital staff. I had a high
intervention delivery, almost got sent to Aussie as the NICUs in NZ
were full, she advocated for me and let me know what was going on.
This was no easy task for her - as dealing with NICU, Peds,
Obstrictrics are all a law unto themselves.
I ended up with a c-section under general, she checked my babies
for me, checked on me, and followed up when I needed it.
If I had another bubs - she is who I would want :)

I would have to second Kathy's recommendation for herself! She
delivered Jakeb into this world for me.
Other than her I ended up with Paula Braithwate for Kodi's birth.
Unfortunately both herself and her back up were both caught up with
births, so I had Suzi Hume come. I had never met Suzi before and
here I was giving birth! She was just what I needed in a midwife,
encouraged me through an amazing birth experience and I was very
happy with the care and follow up recieved.

I had my baby in Brisbane but my midwife has since moved to the
West Coast, I believe she got a job as the LMC for Westport or
Hokitika. Her name is Yvonne Argent and I could not recommend her
highly enough. She is nothing short of AMAZING! She has been a
strong advocate of homebirth in Australia, has been a midwife for
about 30 years, and is also really knowledgeable about herbs,
creams, homeopathics, breastfeeding, the list goes on. I really
don't think I could have made it through my natural homebirth
without her. I am tempted to move to the West Coast to have my next
baby just so she can be a part of it, no kidding!
